WHAT I VALUE ABOUT SHINING RIVERS by a Morning Garden parent
Personal.
I want to be a better person.
I want to be a more balanced, warm and understanding mother.
I want to be a better homemaker.
Teaching.
Ms. Michiyo is calm and centered.
Ms. Michiyo is capable of dancing between caring for children and offering her insight when parents inquire.
Ms. Michiyo helps me to better understand my child/ren.
Ms. Michiyo marries acceptance and change artfully.
Location.
The physical grounds/campus.
No asphalt.
Gardens.
Trees providing shade.
Ample outdoor space surrounded by nature.
Indoor space is home-like, simple and inviting and peaceful in color.
No desks in Morning Garden (pre-k) or Kindergarten.
Food.
The snacks are always organic and whole
The potlucks and festival foods are the best in town.
Community.
The community feels like family.
The community is just that, people working together as harmoniously as possible.
The staff feels genuine and speaks to you.
Play.
Play is uninterrupted.
Play is predominantly outdoors.
Play is open-ended with materials that are natural.
Teaching Style.
Teaching is strongly focused on being a model to the child/ren.
Learning is not outlined in early childhood, it's indirect and manifests organically.
Handwork, art and nature are the gateway to learning.
I think Shining Rivers Waldorf School is truly an inspiring experience for both child and parent.
